LITTER PCIKING

INITATIVE

Introduction
We all like to live in a nice well kept environment. In the Bramcote Hills area we are fortunate to have accessible areas of woodlands and parks for walking. The area also provides leisure and sports facilities and a campus of 4 schools. The routes to and through these amenities are prone to littering by those less thoughtful members of society. However experience has demonstrated that well kept areas attract less residual litter than un-kept areas. Whilst the Local Authority are proactive in litter picking they cannot under take this every day. The community association with support from the Local Council and schools, will help organise and promote litter picking groups by providing a means of communication of litter pick days and areas for members to join help keep our environment clear of litter.

Why should we pick up other peoples litter?
A well kept area influences the value of property as well as the quality of people’s day to day life. It is an activity that costs only peoples time, it demonstrates a positive attitude to the environment and allows rate payers money to be spent in areas to improve services.

The Association is addressing the following levels of litter management.

1: Deep - where a group targets an area and gets at the litter that is blown into the undergrowth. This includes parks, play areas and paths and would be organised and communicated through the Communities web site and email notification service.

2: Medium - a patrol once a week along a small route near to where you live to pick up surface litter.

3: Light - where we encourage people to carry a plastic bag when they go out for a walk. If you walk your dogs and carry dog waste bags please carry a plastic bag to pick up surface litter.

4: Culture change - working with the schools to help change the culture of littering.
